The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) 2022-23

Jakub Leszczynski

The Center for World University Rankings has published this year's eleventh edition of its ranking of world universities. On the list of top 2,000 universities in the world, out of nearly 18 thousand, 39 universities from Poland were listed.

Since 2012. The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) publishes the only academic ranking of the world's universities that evaluates the quality of education, employability, faculty and research, not based on surveys or data submitted by universities. The ranking began as a project in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to rank the top 100 universities in the world. It was quickly covered by universities and media around the world and received many requests to expand it. In 2019, the ranking has been expanded to include the top 2,000 of nearly twenty thousand universities worldwide, making it the largest academic ranking of global universities.

Ranking Methodology

CWUR publishes the only academic ranking of the world's universities that assesses educational quality, graduate employment, faculty quality, and research performance without relying on surveys or data submitted by universities.
CWUR uses seven indicators grouped into four areas to rank the world's universities:

  1. Education: based on the academic success of university graduates, measured by the number of graduates who have earned prestigious academic honors relative to the size of the university (25%).
  2. Employability: based on the career success of college graduates and measured by the number of graduates who have taken top positions at large companies relative to the size of the college (25%).
  3. Faculty: measured by the number of faculty members who have earned prestigious academic honors (10%)
  4. Research:
    1. Research output: measured by the total number of research papers (10%)
    2. High quality publications: measured by the number of research papers published in top ranked journals (10%)
    3. Impact: measured by the number of research papers appearing in high impact journals (10%)
    4. Citations: measured by the number of highly cited research papers (10%).

Ranking results

This year, 19788 institutions participated in the ranking, and those that ranked in the top tier were included in CWUR's Global 2000 ranking list.
