The best universities and economic studies in Poland. Ranking of 'Rzeczpospolita' 2019

Jakub Leszczynski

The Rzeczpospolita daily announced the results of the 4th edition of the ranking of the Best Universities and Economics Departments in Poland. Similarly, to last year, the Warsaw School of Economics (4th consecutive time) turned out to be the best economic university in Poland. The best economic studies are offered by the University of Warsaw, followed by the University of Economics in Poznan and the University of Economics in Katowice.

Methodology of the "Rzeczpospolita" ranking

The rules for preparing the ranking of economic universities have not changed significantly since last year's edition. As a reminder, the summary is prepared with the support of the Information Processing Center - National Research Institute in Poland, which has developed and maintains the “POL-ON” system – a national Information System for Science and Higher Education. The universities and faculties that take part in the ranking are compared on the basis of the results obtained in the following four categories: graduates' career (the most important factor – constitutes 40% of the ranking), quality of teaching, scientific potential and internationalization. The major change introduced this year is the ranking of economic studies, which replaced the ranking of economic faculties. The change results from the provisions of the Constitution for Science, introduced in 2018, in which the fields of study are assigned to universities and not to faculties.

Results of the 'Rzeczpospolita' ranking

The undisputed queen among economic universities in Poland is the Warsaw School of Economics, which won the ranking for the 4th time in a row. The University of Economics in Poznan came second (3rd place in 2018), and the University of Economics in Katowice came third (4th place in 2018).

As for the ranking of economic studies, this year the University of Warsaw came first on the podium. The following medal positions were respectively: Gdansk University of Technology and the University of Lodz. In total, 6 economic universities and 16 non-economic universities from Poland took part in the ranking.

Conclusions

Economics and management studies are still very popular among students in Poland. The analysis of the ranking results from this year and from previous years indicates that universities and economic studies are constantly developing and evolving so as to best meet the expectations of candidates and the requirements of employers employing university graduates. Most of universities included in the ranking offers studies in English, so they are opened for international students, who would like to get a modern and internationally oriented economic knowledge. The effects of these works can also be seen in foreign rankings, in which universities in Poland are getting higher and higher positions.
