Perspektywy University Ranking 2018

The Education Foundation Perspektywy has announced the results of this year’s edition of the Polish University Ranking 2018. This is the 19th edition of the Ranking that is traditionally published every May by the educational monthly "Perspektywy". University of Warsaw and Jagiellonian University in Krakow are the winners in the Polish University Ranking 2018. Among the private schools, Kozminski University from Warsaw succeeded in defending the title of the best private university in Poland. As far as the State Higher Vocational Schools are concerned, Pope John Paul II State School of Higher Vocational Education in Biala Podlaska is ranked first.

The Perspektywy University Ranking 2018 prepared by the Education Foundation Perspektywy consists of four rankings that reflect positions of different types of the Polish universities. These are: the Academic Higher Education Institutions Ranking that covers all higher education institutions with the right to confer doctoral degree; the Private Universities Ranking (Master Level) that includes non-public higher education institutions with the right to education at least at the level of a Master's degree and a minimum two years of graduates; the State Higher Vocational Schools Ranking that covers vocational schools with the qualifications to run the studies at the level of a master's or bachelor's (engineer's) degree and the Ranking by Subject that presents a large number of 68 fields of studies.

Methodology 

Every school is rated based on different criteria. As for the academic higher education institutions, there are 7 criteria: prestige (14%), innovation (8%), scientific/ academic potential (15%), scientific effectiveness (20%), teaching and learning (10%), internationalisation (15%), graduates in the labour market (17%). As far as the private universities are concerned, these criteria are a bit different as follows: prestige (10%), innovation (8%), scientific potential (30%), teaching and learning (15%), internationalisation (15%), graduates in the labour market (25%). And finally the state higher vocational schools are assessed in terms of the following criteria: prestige (10%), innovation (8%), scientific potential (30%), teaching and learning (10%), internationalisation (15%), graduates in the labour market (30%). Additionally, all rankings have their own set of minimum criteria that have to be met so that any school can be classified. Ranking by Subject

And now a few words about the Perspektywy Ranking by Subject 2018. It covers 68 (nie wiem czy sie to nie zmienilo) subjects that are the most popular in Poland, offered by the universities. The list, depending on the specifics of a given subject, is created on the basis of between 11 and 13 indicators grouped into six criteria such as: prestige, graduates in the labour market, academic potential, scientific effectiveness, teaching potential and additional criteria. Also, there are different weighting ratios for particular criteria, depending on the specifics of a given subject. Like in 2017, this year Warsaw School of Economics in Warsaw is the winner as far as management studies are concerned, University of Warsaw is second and Kozminski University from Warsaw is third.
It is also worth emphasising that there will be some new methodology challenges to be met while preparing the rankings in the future owing to the entry of Act 2.0 that will establish new framework of performance of higher education in Poland. It will apply to the Ranking by Subject, in particular.
