The Financial Times European Business School Ranking 2013

The “Financial Times” has published ranking of business schools in Europe. Kozminski University (KU) has kept its previous year’s , 37^th position in the “Financial Times” ranking of business schools in Europe. KU is the only Polish university that has made this year’s “FT” list.

The “Financial Times” ranking, published on Dec 1, consists of 75 top business schools in Europe. The biggest representations of the best business schools come from UK (21) and France (18). Two schools, HEC Paris, the oldest business school in Europe, and IE Business School from Spain, have tied for number one spot, followed by London Business Schools and Esade Business School (Spain), ranked 3^rd (also in a tie), and INSEAD of France, ranked 5^th.

Kozminski University has been listed in the “Financial Times” main ranking for 5^th year in a row. It made its debut in 2009 and has kept high position since then (37^th this year).

A school’s position in the main “Financial Times” ranking of top business school depends on its performance results in a number of partial rankings, published annually, including Master of Management, MBA and EMBA, and non-degree executive education programs. “FT” experts distribute questionnaires among graduates of business school’s selected programs and – on the basis of their feedback – evaluate their careers, position in corporate hierarchy and average salary in three years after graduation. They also take into account professionalism and diversity of the schools’ faculty.

The school that decides to undergo such a scrutiny of its alumni careers and its faculty is not charged for its participation in the “FT” rankings. Such factors add credibility to the “FT” lists and make them important sources of data for prospective students. Therefore, many business schools attempt to be ranked on the lists. “FT” has declared that that only schools with at least two out of three major accreditations: EQUIS, AACSB, and AMBA, treated as international standards of quality in business education, would be featured in the list. All six new entrants in the 2013 “FT” ranking have earned these accreditations.

The “FT” ranking is a convenient tool for comparison of business schools’ accomplishments. It creates an opportunity in international higher education market for relatively young, ambitious players, also from central and eastern Europe. In addition to Kozminski University (set up in 1992), such schools include: Business School at St. Petersburg University (Russia, debut on 74^th position, established in early 1990s) and University of Economics, Prague (75^th position).
